ASCE New Orleans Branch
Tree Planting and Swamp Restoration
Dear Members,
The Pontchartrain Conservancy is seeking volunteers to plant bald cyprus and green ash trees throughout the Pontchartrain Basin. It is well known that forested swamp areas help absorb storm surges and stabilize land along our vanishing coastline. Restoring these essential habitats is one of the most effective ways you can help improve the resiliency of your community and bring biodiversity back to our wetlands.
ASCE New Orleans Branch and the UNO Student Chapter are looking for volunteers to participate in our tree planting group next Saturday, November 20th. We will be planting trees near Madisonville. Our group will meet at 8AM at the Madisonville Boat Launch, 2001 Main St. Madisonville, LA 70447. The tree planting will last until 3 PM. We will reach out to those registered next Wednesday to discuss possible car pooling from the South Shore. Sack lunches, including vegetarian options, will be provided. Please come prepared with waterproof clothing and a pair of sturdy rubber boots.
