2024 ASCE New Orleans Branch Outstanding Civil Engineer Award winner
Congratulations to the 2024 ASCE New Orleans Branch Outstanding Civil Engineer Award winner, Newell Schindler, PE.
Mr. Schindler has been employed with Modjeski and Masters, Inc (M&M) for the past four (4) years as their Highway Section Manager for M&M’s New Orleans office.
Mr. Schindler has 42 years of experience in the management and design of infrastructure projects, 13 years of experience in the Road Design Section of LADOTD, and 29 years of experience as a Consulting Engineer which has included Project Management and design of a multitude of infrastructure improvement projects. He has extensive knowledge of current LADOTD and the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) policies and design procedures. In addition, Mr. Schindler supervised the design of a multitude of road and bridge improvement projects, including complex urban interstate, urban arterial, rural arterial, and minor bridge replacement projects. Projects included coordination with Traffic Engineers and the evaluation of traffic analyses to develop capacity and safety roadway improvements, including intersections and interchanges. He worked on several drainage/flood control and hurricane recovery projects.

Married to Julie Mellon. Has a twenty-six yr. old son (Newell, III), Thirty-five yr. old step-daughter (Kate) and a fourteen yr. old step-granddaughter (Emilie). Hobbies include golf, cycling, cooking, cajun/zydeco dancing, listening to music, and is a big fan of Jazz Fest. Also, raise monarch butterflies and have released over 1,300 into nature over the past 5 years.
